Bimini, 1-11-11

Hey folks,


The anchor was up at 6:15 am in very thick fog and we were one of the last boats to leave.  Mary skillfully navigated around the cape of florida in 2 -3 foot seas and by the time we caught the gulf stream, the fog was lifting, the seas were settling down and the sun started to shine!  We shared the gulf stream with lots of freighters and a few other sailboats.

We arrived  at the customs dock in Bimini 9 hours after weighing anchor and got a 90 day cruising permit.  Since the weather is not predicted to be favorable for traveling, we got a slip at the blue water marina and we'll be here for several days.  We're looking forward to exploring the charm of Bimini along with tasting some of it's culinary delights.

The water color of the gulf stream was the deepest shade of midnight blue (of course the depth at some points was 2800 feet) and as soon as we got close to Bimini we found the water to be a crystal clear blue.  We've been told by other cruisers to expect nicer and clearer water in the Exumas if that is possible.
